Houston Police chief Troy Finner appointed Pakistani-origin Commander Yasir Bashir, as Head of family violence department. Yasir Bashir will be the first Muslim assistant chief of police in the United States of America .
The Pakistani Embassy in Washington has welcomed the appointment. The US state of Texas is home to a large Pakistani community and the city of Houston is a destination the most of Pakistani immigrants.
