In 1992, Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher were shooting for the film 'Khel' in Kenya. During chatting, Anupam told Anil about his next film with Yash Chopra. Anil had already worked with Chopra in a few films and was attracted to the film that Anupam talked about.
Upon returning to India, Anil visited Chopra and begged for a role in his next direction, which was called 'Parampara'. Chopra decided to give him a role, but Anil was so excited that he decided not to discuss the role and accept whatever Chopra had for him.
Chopra had earlier considered Jackie Shroff for the role, which he gave to Anil. The film unit reached Jaipur for the shoot, but Anil refused to do the role that he had begged for and signed without hearing.
The role was of the father of Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Chopra was upset with this behavior, but he had to rope somebody in as the shoot was stuck. He called Vinod Khanna and requested him to take the part. Khanna reached the location the next day.
